If you are a business, brief announcements may be considered for seasonal events (Easter Egg hunts, etc.), providing the event is open to the general public, free of charge, and no promotional material is contained in the announcement.

Pike Library’s “Old-Fashioned Picnic”

New Library site, East Harford Street, Milford

Grab the kids and some spare change, and head on over to the Pike County Public Library’s old-fashioned picnic.  For only $2 a ticket, you’ll get a hot dog, ice cream and a cold drink, along with a hearty serving of family fun. This end of summer shindig on the building site of the new Dorothy Warner Main Branch on East Harford Street, Milford, will offer free face painting for the kids and much, much more.   In keeping with the Pike County Public Library’s (PCPL) focus on conservation issues, the picnic will include a special demonstration of birds of prey (hawks, eagles, owls, falcons, and vultures) from the Delaware Valley Raptor Center, which will provide youngsters with the opportunity to see the raptors up-close and learn more about their habits and habitat.

 

Midsummer Night’s Arts Festival

Four Hawley Arts organizations are pleased to present the second annual ‘Midsummer Night’s Arts Festival. The Ritz Company Playhouse, the Black Bear Conservatory of Music, World Dance Theatre, and the Hawley Public Library have planned an evening that will celebrate the thriving downtown Hawley arts community. The evening will include readings and remarks by Malachy McCourt, music by artists from the Black Bear Conservatory of Music, and a selection of international dances presented by World Dance Theatre.

General admission tickets are $25 and $10 for students and are available at the Hawley Public Library and the Settler’s Inn on Main Street, at the Black Bear Conservatory of Music on Church Street, and at the Ritz Theatre on Keystone Street, all in downtown Hawley. There are also gala tickets available for $50, which include admission as well as a meet and greet reception to follow at the Settler’s Inn. Red Cross Fall Festival of Entertainment

Ticket sales are vigorous for the Red Cross Fall Festival of Entertainment.  The Red Cross is urging people to buy tickets now if they wish to attend. The evening will feature a cocktail hour, live music, five course dinner and thousands of dollars in raffle prizes to be given away.

Tickets of $60 each can be obtained by contacting the office at 570-253-2310 or 296-5229. Tickets are also on sale on at the Wayne Pike Chapter, 1111 Main St., Honesdale.

Red Cross Gala committee members confirmed, “This Fall Festival of Entertainment Benefit Dinner is our largest fundraiser of the year, allowing us to continue serving our community. We are in the process of securing fantastic prizes and gift certificates from dozens of area businesses for our grand raffle.”

 

PCDC Tricky Tray

Pike County Developmental Center, will have their annual Tricky Tray. Doors open at 4 PM and calling starts at 6 PM.  Lots of great trays, door prizes, grand prizes, huge 50/50, etc. All proceeds benefit adults with developmental disabilities attending the Center.

Basic Hunter-Trapper Education Course

Saturday, September 27, 1 – 6, Sunday, September 28, 12 – 6
Wayne County Visitors Center, Honesdale

The Wayne County Chamber of Commerce will sponsor a two-day Basic Hunter-Trapper Education Course in the Wayne County Visitors Center Community Room, 32 Commercial Street, Honesdale.  The course is presented by Coordinating Instructor, Arnie Callesano, Certified volunteer instructors and the PA Game Commission.  It is a requirement for all first time hunters who have never held a hunting license, regardless of their age.  In addition, adults who are planning an out-of-state hunting trip should also plan on attending one of these courses, since all 50states, as well as eight Canadian Provinces, mandate some form of Hunter Education before they will issue a hunting license or permit to hunt.

This course is open to anyone who has reached his or her 11th birthday by September 27, 2008.  There is no charge for this course.  Participants must attend both sessions in order to receive certification.

Pre-registration is required.  No Registration will be accepted at the door.
