Route 209 detour could last a year

BUSHKILL – Drivers trying to get between Milford and Stroudsburg should get used to a detour.  It could be in place for a long time, as an eight-mile stretch of Route 209 undergoes major reconstruction.

Route 209, between Milford and Dingman Ferry, was closed late last week after a 150-yard segment developed sagging and pavement separation.  The road reportedly has dropped up to six inches in some places, with pavement gaps several inches wide.

Record rainfall, including from tropical storms Irene and Lee, are likely to have contributed to the problem.

Drivers will need to find alternate routes, either through New Jersey or on SR 2001.
