Increased patrols on Lake Wallenpaupack

HAWLEY - Generations of people have enjoyed recreational activities at Lake Wallenpaupack. This year the Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission, Pennsylvania State Police and the PPL company that owns and operates the lake are once again working together to enhance efforts to make the lake more enjoyable for all those who use it.

The commission and state police will increase patrols of the popular 5,700-acre lake in Wayne and Pike counties this summer.

“The combined lake patrols by the state police and Fish & Boat Commission are another way to help visitors have a positive experience at Lake Wallenpaupack,” said Paul Canevari, PPL community relations director for the Pocono region.

Police and the commission will begin their joint lake patrols on Memorial Day weekend.

“Lake Wallenpaupack is a busy place, especially this time of year, and we want boaters and other people who come to the lake to use good judgment, obey the law and enjoy their experience here,” said state police Lt. James J. Schultz, commander of Troop R in Blooming Grove.

Larry Bundy, northeast region manager for the Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission, said boaters need to be aware that carelessness aboard a boat can lead to the same kind of tragic accidents that occur on highways.

“With all the summertime activity on the lake — fishing, boating, personal watercraft use, water-skiing and sailing — it’s important to stay alert and follow the rules,” he said.
