Monroe, Pike to receive conservation and recreation grants

HARRISBURG – The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources announced several grants for Monroe County and one for Pike.  No grants were announced for Wayne County

The recreation and conservation grant program is funded with a variety of state and federal funding sources including, the Keystone Recreation, Park and Conservation Fund (Key 93) which includes Key – Community and Key - Land Trust; the Environmental Stewardship Fund (ESF); the federal Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF); Pennsylvania Recreational Trails fund (PRT – Federal source); Pennsylvania Heritage Area Program (HA) and; the Snowmobile/ATV Fund (S/ATV).

Monroe:

  • Chestnuthill Township, $176,000, Rehabilitation of Chestnuthill Township Park, Chestnuthill Township, Monroe County.  Work to include renovation of basketball courts and hiking trail; installation of lighting facilities, electrical upgrades and fencing; ADA access, project sign, ancillary signage, landscaping and other related site improvements.Further development of West End Regional Park, Chestnuthill Township, Monroe County.  Work to include construction of dog park, parking area, pedestrian walkway and stormwater management measures; installation of fencing and lighting; ADA access, landscaping, project sign and other related site improvements.
  • Paradise Township, $169,000, Further development of Seven Pines Park, Paradise Township, Monroe County.  Work to include construction of parking area, pedestrian walkway and stormwater management measures; installation of play equipment with required safety surfacing; ADA access, landscaping, project sign and other related site improvements.
  • Pocono Heritage Land Trust, $213,500, Payment toward the acquisition of approximately 179 acres along Route 191 in Stroud Township, Monroe County for open space protection and to enhance public recreation opportunities.
  • Wildlands Conservancy, Inc. $20,000, Rehabilitation and further development of the Maple Tract Preserve, Tunkhannock Township, Monroe County. Work to include the restoration of Tunkhannock Creek; construction of pedestrian pathways; ADA access, landscaping, project sign and other related site improvements.
  • Wildlands Conservancy, Inc. $186,000, Payment toward the acquisition of approximately 72 acres along Route 940 in Tobyhanna Township, Monroe County for addition to the Darling Preserve providing increased public access and protection of wildlife habitat.

Monroe and Northampton:

  • The Conservation Fund, $1,000,000, Payment toward the acquisition of approximately 2,610 acres along Route 33 in Monroe and Northampton Counties for an addition to the Cherry Valley National Wildlife Refuge and watershed protection.

Pike:

  • The Nature Conservancy, $340,000, Payment toward the acquisition of approximately 318 acres near Route 402 in Porter Township, Pike County for an addition to the Delaware State Forest and protection of the Bushkill watershed.
