Bar brawl leads to felony assault charges

SALEM TWP – A Lakeville man accused of brutally beating another man, causing serious facial injuries, was released on unsecured $100,000 bail after being charged with aggravated assault.

The incident happened December 16 at Back Drafts Bar on Route 590 in Salem Township.

Police say Paul Carte and David Ehrgood were in the bar and began fighting.  Ehrgood was knocked unconscious, but police say Carte continued assaulting him, including hitting him several times in the head with a bar stool, then throwing a table on him.

Others tried to intervene to keep Carte from continuing the attack. Carte shoved one of the interveners, a woman, to the floor.

Ehrgood was transported to a local hospital with a concussion, several fractures to the face and facial lacerations.

Carte turned himself in on January 4 and was released, without having to post any of the $100,000 bail.  He is due back in Wayne County Court on January 11.
