Two charged after icy road crash on I-84

DINGMAN TWP – A tractor-trailer driver is in jail after a 12-vehicle crash early Wednesday morning.  The mess happened about 2:30 a.m. as a mix of icy precipitation was falling, creating dangerous conditions.

Police say a trooper was assisting at an earlier accident on Interstate 84 west when he was struck by a tractor trailer that went out of control, striking a stopped police cruiser.  The trooper was treated for minor injuries and released.

Police later charged the driver, Cecil Lipscomb Jr., 47, of Massachusetts, with aggravated assault while DUI and possession of a controlled substance.  A passenger in the truck, Nicole Gyurasz, was charged with possession.  Both were being held in the Pike County Jail in lieu of $300,000 bail.

"This incident demonstrates that our State Police put their lives on the line every day to help those in need,” said Pike County District Attorney Raymond Tonkin. “The charges show that the driver clearly endangered the lives of many people.”
