Police say son scammed mom out of thousands

BLOOMING GROVE TWP – State Police say a mother is out over $4,000 because of payments made in response to text messages sent by her son.

Charles Wahnon, 25, is accused of sending the messages while posing as someone else.  The messages to the mother said her son would be harmed if payments were not made in the form of cash drops and wire transfers.  The threats began in January and continued until this week.

On Tuesday, State Police at Blooming Grove set up a “drop” at a location in Hemlock Farms.  That led to the arrest of Wahnon, who police say was acting alone.

Wahnon faces various felony charges including theft by extortion, theft by deception and criminal use of a communication facility.  He is currently in the Pike County Correctional Facility in lieu of $20,000 bail.
