Milford man nabbed in NY drug bust

PORT JERVIS - Police in neighboring Port Jervis, NY, in conjunction with members of the Town of Deerpark Police Department, working as part of the Joint Crime Suppression Task Force, conducted a surveillance operation in the vicinity of the Metro North train. Based upon the operation, detectives took into custody two men who had exited the train with a quantity of heroin.

Vito Galati, 30, of Milford, PA, and Mitchell Starr, 33, of Port Jervis, were arrested by police and charged with possessing heroin with the intent to sell same. According to detectives, a total of 269 bags of heroin were seized along with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Galati was charged with Criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree, a class B felony, for possessing the narcotic drug heroin with the intent to sell same, and Criminal possession of a controlled substance in the fourth degree, a class C felony, for possession one-eighth of an ounce or more of a narcotic drug.  Galati was also charged as a fugitive from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania where he is wanted on unspecified offenses.

Starr was charged with Criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree, a class B felony, for possessing the narcotic drug heroin with the intent to sell same. He was also charged with the class A misdemeanor of Criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree.

Both Galati and Starr are in the Orange County NY jail in lieu of $25,000 cash bail each.

Two other Port Jervis residents were arrested in the same operation, on lessor charges.
