Pike County Court sentencing

Niko and Cpl. Nero

POCONO SUMMIT – K9 Niko, who faithfully served Pocono Mountain Regional Police, died earlier this week.

PMRPD announced that Niko, working with his handler, Cpl. Matthew Nero, was on duty searching for narcotics.  He suddenly showed signs of distress and was taken to a veterinarian who found a serious and inoperable condition, requiring Niko to be euthanized.

Like many police dogs, Niko was bred in Europe.  He had served PMRPD since 2010.
