Man sentenced to prison for breaking into cars in national park

SCRANTON – A Northampton man was sentenced to four years in federal prison for conspiring to commit theft on federal land, and for committing aggravated identity theft.

Lewis Davenport, 40, and other individuals broke into unoccupied automobiles located in the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area. Davenport admitted that he and his conspirators stole electronics, cellular phones, credit cards and other items from the cars, and used the credit cards at various retail businesses in Bartonsville and Easton.

Davenport has an extensive criminal history, which included 19 convictions involving theft and credit card fraud-related activities.

The sentence also includes over $1,700 in restitution.
