Man sentenced for murder in Delaware Township

Masker

MILFORD – A man charged with the murder of another man in the parking lot of a bar in Delaware Township, was sentenced to a long prison term, in Pike County Court.   Jared Masker, 33, of Milford, was sentenced by Judge Gregory Chelak, to a total of 17 years to 45 years in a state correctional facility, for the murder in the 3rd degree and unlicensed firearms. Masker was also ordered to pay $5,000 pursuant to the Crime Victims Act and $6,500 to the Crime Victim’s Compensation Assistance Program.

Masker previously entered a plea of guilty in Pike County Court to the charges that arose out of an incident in August of 2015.  Masker and Kristopher Hanscom, 23, of Bushkill, got involved in an altercation in the parking lot of a bar pm Silver Lake Road in Delaware Township.  According to witnesses, Masker warned Hanscom he had thirty seconds to leave the property, and then pulled a firearm, placed it under Hanscom’s jaw and pulled the trigger, killing Hanscom.

At the sentencing hearing members of Hanscom’s family described Kristopher Hanscom as an artistically talented individual who was a kind family member and would always be thinking of others.

District Attorney Ray Tonkin who prosecuted the case was satisfied with the sentence handed out.  “While nothing we can do can bring back Kristopher to his family, the sentence imposed by Judge Chelak delivers justice in this case,” Tonkin said.
