Man charged with heroin possession, resisting arrest

Berger

STROUDSBURG – An East Petersburg man, who detectives tried to get into rehab, is in jail instead.

Zechariah Berger’s girlfriend, Deanna Perry, contacted detectives reporting that Berger, 24, had relapsed and is using heroin again. Perry said she was afraid to go back to her residence. A detective went to the residence and tried to persuade Berger to contact a rehabilitation center and admit himself into an inpatient program. Berger, showing signs of being high, became combative and tried to keep a bookbag away from police.  The bag contained what appeared to be heroin, and an empty syringe.

Charges against Berger include resisting arrest, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. He is in the Monroe County Correctional Facility in lieu of $5,000 secured bail.
