Former Rep. McDade dies

FAIRFAX VA – One of the longest-serving members of Congress from Pennsylvania is dead.  Joseph McDade died Sunday in Virginia.  He was 85, a few days short of his 86th birthday.

McDade, a Scranton native, was first elected in 1962 and represented the 10th district for 18 terms, or 36 years.  The district includes Pike, Wayne and other counties in northeast Pennsylvania.

After leaving congress, McDade was honored with his name on the new terminal at Wilkes-Barre Scranton International Airport.  A trail along the Delaware River in the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area is also named for him.
