Monroe man convicted on felony drug charges

STROUDSBURG – A Tobyhanna, was convicted on following a two-day jury trial of two felony counts of attempted possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, felony conspiracy to commit possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and felony criminal use of a communication facility.

In December 2016, Tyree Hargroves, 41, was ordered to appear in the Monroe County Court of Common Pleas for a probation violation hearing on Hargroves' unrelated DUI case. Hargroves failed to appear for the hearing and a bench warrant was issued for his arrest. Local law enforcement were notified of the outstanding warrant for Hargroves.

Hargroves Was Eventually Spotted at a residence on Brandywine Drive in A Pocono Country Place, but as police approached, he got into a vehicle and drove off. He was eventually taken into custody on the outstanding bench warrant and was found in possession of three $100 bills as well as a cell phone and other US currency. A police K9 detected drugs.  A search of the vehicle revealed small rubber bands consistent with those used to package heroin.

Based on text messages, the officers confirmed that Hargroves was en route to pick up the drugs at the time of the traffic stop. Earlier text messages also confirmed Hargroves knew of his required court appearance and willfully failed to appear.
