Monroe man gets long prison term for several thefts

Moya

STROUDSBURG – An East Stroudsburg man could spend up to over six years in state prison for several thefts in Monroe County.

Michael Moya, 24, pled guilty in April 2017, in six separate criminal cases involving thefts in Monroe County.  The cases spanned from September to December 2016 and involved thefts from residences, retail stores, and restaurants.  One of Moya’s last thefts in the area was in December 2016 when he entered the Arlington Diner in Stroud Township and stole all of the cash in the “Toys for Tots” donation jar.

At the time Moya entered his guilty plea, he had been incarcerated on these charges for over one hundred days, never posting bail on any of his cases.  Within a week of entering the guilty plea, Moya posted bail and then absconded to Baltimore, MD.  He failed to appear for his sentencing, in May.  He was extradited back to Monroe County in September.

He was sentenced in Monroe County Court this week to a term ranging from 31 to 75 months.
