Guilty plea in heroin trafficking conspiracy

SCRANTON – A New Jersey woman pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court to participating in a heroin trafficking conspiracy that stretched from Stroudsburg to New York to Maine.

Briani Gomez, 21, admitted to transporting more than 100 grams of heroin (which is equivalent to more than 4,000 retail bags of heroin) to co-conspirators in Maine during 2012 through June 2014.

Gomez was indicted along with three other people by a federal grand jury in October 2016, following an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Pennsylvania State Police, the Maine State Police, the Monroe County District Attorney’s Office, and local police in Monroe County.

Gomez faces up to 40 years in prison when sentenced at a later date.
