Frat brothers sentenced in hazing death

STROUDSBURG – Three members of the Baruch College Pi Delta Psi chapter are heading to prison and a fourth was sentenced to time served, in the death of a fraternity pledge in 2013.

Michael Deng, 18, was injured during activities at a rented house in Monroe County.   He later died at a hospital.

Investigators said fraternity brothers did nothing to help him until hours after he was injured during a brutal initiation ritual.

The sentence was the result of a plea deal.  Kenny Kwan, Raymond Lam and Charles Li and were each given 10 to 24 months in prison.  Charles Lai was sentenced to time served.  All four will be in probation for seven years after doing their time in the Monroe County Prison.

The fraternity itself was fined $100,000 and barred from operating in Pennsylvania for ten years.  Pi Delta Psi must immediately disband its other PA chapter, at Penn State.
