Standoff at Stroud Township home ends with suicide

STROUD TWP - Stroud Area Regional Police executed a search warrant at 5555 Glenbrook Road, in Stroud Township on Wednesday, as the result of a barricaded man.

The investigation initially began at the above address on December 26, 2017 when constables went to enforce a notice of possession (eviction) on the tenant, Michael Rogers, who had barricaded himself in the house.

Rogers, 63, made various threatening statements about not leaving the home and harm to anyone that may enter.

During the next 15 hours, police made numerous attempts to get Rogers to exit his home. After repeated failed attempts, police entered the home at approximately 2:30am, where Rogers was found deceased due to an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The Stroud Area Regional Police were assisted by State Police, The Monroe County District Attorney’s Office, Monroe County detectives, the Monroe County Control Center, Suburban Ambulance and the Red Cross for their assistance during this incident.
