Businessman accused of pocketing money from real estate closings to stand trial

STROUDSBURG – A preliminary hearing was held Tuesday on charges brought against Mountain Lakes Abstract Company business owner Scott Marinelli, 46 of Annandale, NJ.

Marinelli faces indictment on 18 counts, including several felonies. The charges Include theft by deception, theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property, and falsely pretending to hold a professional occupational license and 4 counts of deceptive business practices.

These charges stem from real estate closings Marinelli handled between August 31st 2017 and March 27th, 2018. Victims in this matter included the Monroe County Recorder of Deeds and property owners in Pocono Pines, Tobyhanna Township.

Magisterial District Judge Chrstina Anzini found that there was sufficient evidence to send the case on to the Monroe County Court of Common Pleas.

Marinelli remains free on $25,000 unsecured bail. A trial date is pending.

The District Attorney’s Office believes that there are additional victims in Monroe and the surrounding counties.
