Boyfriend charged after deadly roadside dispute with girlfriend

MOUNT POCONO – Police say a Maryland man is charged with homicide and several other crimes after he pushed his girlfriend into the path of an oncoming vehicle.

Brianna Burkhart died at the scene on Route 611, after being run over.

Police say it appears that around 2:00 Friday morning, Burkhart, 29, and Zachary Collette, 26, of Cockeysville MD, had been arguing when they stopped on 611 between Grange Road and a railroad trestle.  A physical struggle ensued, with Collette pushing Burkhart into the road.

An 18-year-old Tobyhanna woman driving another car, said she saw what she thought was a deer and was unable to avoid hitting it.  She then realized it was a person and immediately pulled over.

A blood test showed no sign of intoxication by alcohol or drugs.  At this time, police do not expect to charge the driver.

Charges pending against Collette include homicide, reckless endangerment and simple assault.
