Wayne County jury convicts child molester

HONESDALE – A Hamlin man was found guilty on four felony and two misdemeanor charges related to a series of attacks on a young girl over the course of a year and a half.

Following a two-day trial earlier this week, the jury deliberated approximately one hour before convicting Mark Blevins, 57, of aggravated indecent assault, criminal attempt to commit aggravated indecent assault, corruption of minor and misdemeanor counts of indecent assault of a complainant less than 13 and indecent exposure.

“Today was a major victory for Wayne County,” SAID First Assistant District Attorney Deborah Rothenberg, who prosecuted the case. “We are privileged in the District Attorney’s Office to have the responsibility to protect and stand up for young victims of sexual abuse. Today’s verdict shows that the community will not tolerate child molestation. I am honored to have been the voice of this victim and hope this verdict will help her and her family move on with their lives. I am thankful for the Wayne County Multi-Disciplinary Team who helped make this conviction happen.”

Blevins is scheduled to be sentenced on February 7.
