Family feud ends with stabbing, arrest

MOUNT POCONO - Pocono Mountain Regional Police were dispatched to a fight in the Mt. Pocono Plaza about 6:30 Mondoay evening. A second caller advised that someone was stabbed and that the suspect was still armed and swinging the knife around, outside the store.

Officers arrived and were directed to a male standing near the Dollar Tree.  Joshua Monsanto was armed with a knife and immediately dropped it at the direction of police.

Preliminary investigation revealed that Anthony Alves had assaulted Monsanto, his nephew. Monsanto’s cousins, Cassandra and Celines Aviles, were also involved in the assault.

Monsanto allegedly displayed a knife after being assaulted by Alves, Casandra and Celines Aviles. During the incident, Celines was stabbed and Casandra received facial injuries. Monsanto, Casandra Aviles and Celines Aviles were transported to Lehigh Valley Pocono for treatment.

Alves was charged with domestic related simple assault, a misdemeanor, harassment and disorderly conduct.

Pending charges include felony assault.
