SMITHFIELD TWP – A passenger in a car was seriously injured when a chunk of ice smashed into the car’s front windshield on Interstate 80.

It happened Tuesday.

A post on the Marshalls Creek Fire Company Facebook page says the ice came off Seven Bridge Road, but other media reports, citing state police, say it came from a tractor trailer.

The man hit by the ice was taken to a hospital with what is described as a traumatic injury.

State law requires that snow and ice be removed from vehicles before hitting the road.
