Child molester gets long prison sentence

HONESDALE -- A sexual predator received a substantial state prison sentence in Wayne County Court on Thursday.

Senior Judge Raymond Hamill sentenced Mark Blevins, 57, of Hamlin to no less than 13 ¼ to nor more than 30 years.

In November 2018, a jury convicted Blevins of one count of aggravated assault of a child, criminal attemp to commit aggravated indecent assault, unlawful restraint, corruption of minors, indecent assault of a complainant less than 13 and indecent exposure.

“Obviously any and all sexual assaults are heinous, especially those perpetrated upon children,” said First Assistant District Attorney Deborah Rothenberg, who prosecuted the case. “This series of assaults was committed by a 56-year-old man against a 5-year-old child. That, in my opinion, makes this Defendant especially evil. To choose a very young, innocent, and defenseless victim such as this requires a person to possess a kind of darkness that I, as a prosecutor, will never understand."
