Driver faces several felony charges after chase

TOBYHANNA TWP – A Newark NJ man is in jail in lieu of $50,000 bail after a pursuit during which he rammed a police car Monday evening.

A Pocono Mountain Regional Police observed a vehicle traveling along State Route 940 at a high rate of speed about 6 Monday evening. The vehicle was traveling west in the eastbound lane. The officer was traveling east and was almost struck by this vehicle as were other cars in front of him. The officer then turned around in pursuit.  

Williams was passing vehicles on the left and right forcing several off the roadway. He struck three vehicles, causing minor damage.

Williams then turned north onto SR 115. Eventually, his vehicle became disabled near the Monroe / Luzern County line.

As the Officer exited his vehicle, Williams put his in reverse and accelerated towards the officer striking the patrol car. Williams then fled on foot into the woods.  The officer gave chase and captured the suspect after a brief foot pursuit.

Williams was arraigned and is in Monroe County Correctional Facility facing several charges, including aggravated assault and fleeing and eluding, multiple misdemeanors including resisting arrest, reckless endangerment and simple assault and a long list of traffic offences.
