Sheriff's K-9 assists in Honesdale drug arrest

HONESDALE - The Wayne County Sheriff's Department K-9 Unit ferreted out several bags of methamphetamine or its residue, after Honesdale Borough Police stopped Jeffrey Rober Drumm, 36, formerly of Lakewood, on Church Street Monday, Sept. 9, at around 9:30 am for an expired inspection sticker.

Wayne County Deputy Sheriff Kominski and his partner, K-9 Manfred, arrived shortly thereafter. As the traffic stop concluded, Sergeant Thacher asked Drumm for permission to have the K-9 search his vehicle and Drumm agreed. The K-9 alerted to the presence of a controlled substance inside. A search of the vehicle was conducted by Wayne County Deputy Sheriff Sanservino, who found one small package containing two grams of suspected methamphetamine and two small packages containing suspected methamphetamine residue. The officers also discovered that there was an active Protection from Abuse order prohibiting Jeffrey Robert Drumm from having contact with his passenger.

Police arrested Drumm for suspected methamphetamine and for violating the Protection from Abuse order. He was arraigned before District Justice Bonnie Carney and realesed on $10,000 unsecured bail for possession of a controlled substance, which will be taken up in Central Court on Wednesday, Sept. 18 at 9 am. Subsequently, Drumm was remanded to the Wayne County Correctional Facility after failing to post the $2,000.00 bail set for the charge relating to Contempt for Violation of Order or Agreement. A court date for that charge will be set at a later time.

“This is a small example of the value of K-9 Manfred in detecting illegal drugs,” said District Attorney Robinson. “This stop also serves as a warning to the citizens of Wayne County that methamphetamine is a looming problem. Methamphetamine is evil and must be stopped before it becomes an epidemic.”
