Pike man charged with housing fraud

Mckay

HONESDALE -- Detectives in the Wayne County District Attorney's Office arrested Yahimi Mackay, 35, on felony charges of theft by deception and fraudulently obtaining Food Stamps or Housing and a misdemeanor count of false statements under penalty.

According to the Affidavit of Probable Cause, Mackay was a participant in the Housing Choice Voucher Program between January 1, 2015 and May 31, 2019. During that time period, he falsified information on numerous documents that he submitted to the Wayne County Housing Authority. This allowed him to collect $56,936.00 that he was not entitled to receive.

Mackay was arraigned by District Justice Bonnie Carney, who set bail at $10,000 unsecured, and released. He is scheduled to appear in Central Court on Wednesday, Oct. 2, at 9 am at the Wayne County Courthouse.

"Welfare fraud takes funds from people who are truly in need of public assistance,” said District Attorney Patrick Robinson. “This kind of activity cannot and will not be allowed to stand.”
