Monroe County receives recycling grant

HARRISBURG - The Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) has awarded the Monroe County Municipal Waste Management Authority $39,747 under the Recycling Coordinator Grant Program, Rep. M. Scavello (R-Monroe) announced today.

"Cash-strapped local governments are being hit by the rising cost of energy," said Scavello. "In a day and age when everything costs more, it is a relief to see state government continuing to support important, time-proven programs."

The Recycling Coordinator Grant Program was established under Act 101 of 1988, which is also known as the Municipal Waste Planning, Recycling and Waste Reduction Act. Grants are used to reimburse 50 percent of the county recycling coordinator's salary and expenses.
