Tri-State area “doing it right”, says chamber head

PORT JERVIS NY – Economic recession aside, there is one area of the extended Hudson Valley region that is growing, and growing in an orderly and appropriate fashion. That is according to Gary Linton, Executive Director of the Tri-State Chamber of Commerce.

There is a recent renewed interest in development in the Port Jervis area and Pike County is one of the fastest growing areas of Pennsylvania.  In fact, for statistical purposes, the federal government considers Pike County to be part of the greater New York metropolitan area.

That region, which spans Northeastern Pennsylvania, Western Orange County, NY, and Northeastern New Jersey, is growing, and doing it right, said Linton.

“We are the first community in the Northeast that has the opportunity to do it correctly and that is due in part, not just to my chamber, but all the chambers over here,” he said. “We work very closely together, we try to keep all the municipalities talking because we know the development is coming, we’ve seen the mistakes that some of the other communities have made and we have a chance to do it right.”
