Mount Pocono receives recycling grant |

HARRISBURG - Mount Pocono Borough is slated to receive a $16,571 grant from the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), Rep. M. Scavello (R-Monroe) announced. "Every plastic bottle that gets sent to a recycler is one less piece of recyclable material that ends up in a landfill," said Scavello. "Now more than ever, it has become apparent that we must conserve our resources. Recycling is one of the best tools in our arsenal to keep our environment healthy for years to come." The Recycling Performance Grant, established in 1988, is based on the 1,403.9 tons of recycled waste for the 2006 calendar year. The Recycling Performance Grant Program provides municipalities and counties further incentives to increase the amount of materials recovered through recycling. This grant is in addition to the funds that the Department of Environmental Protection allocates to municipalities to establish and maintain recycling programs.
