Smoky junkyard fire under control

WIND GAP – A massive fire that broke out about 9:30 Saturday morning at a recycling center just south of the Monroe County line was brought under control about six hours later. Smoke, however, is still coming from the property on Route 512 in Wind Gap, and fire officials say it could take days to fully extinguish the smoldering mess.

There are no reports of injuries.  The Department of Environmental Protection says despite the billowing clouds of smoke, visible for many miles, the air is safe to breath.

Some 15 fire companies, from Northampton and southern Monroe County, responded to the RPM Recycling Center.
