Two dead, several hurt in SUV crash

SMITHFIELD TOWNSHIP – A popular high school athlete died in a one-vehicle accident, blamed on speed, that also killed one other person and injured four.  The accident happened about 1:30 a.m. on Route 447 at 3 Point Garden Road.

Police identify the dead as John Mangual, 18, and Joshua Gurczeski, age not given.  Mangual, a June grad from Pocono Mountain High School West, was an all-star football player and also played basketball.

Four other passengers in the vehicle are hospitalized.  Names and conditions are not yet available.

Police say it appears the SUV was traveling at high speed and ran a stop sign.  The SUV hit a tree.
