Young bicyclist, not wearing helmet, hit by car

CHESTNUTHILL TOWNSHIP – A 9-year-old girl was flown to the hospital after being struck by a car Friday afternoon. 

The girl, not wearing a helmet, as required by law, sustained undetermined injuries and is in Lehigh Valley Hospital.  According to reports, she was initially unconscious, but was able to talk to EMS personnel as she was being loaded into the helicopter. 

The accident happened about 4:40 p.m. on Countryside Drive in Broadheadsville, on a slight hill and curve.  

The 20-year-old driver of the car stopped and remained at the scene. State Police are continuing the investigation, but as of late Friday night, no determination had been made on whether charges will be filed.

Bicyclists age 12 and under are required to wear helmets, under state law.
