Coalition formed to oppose PPL Route A

MILFORD- A new coalition has been formed in Pike County to show PPL that there is opposition to their proposed Route A. "No PP&L Route A" spokesperson Doug Cunningham told the Pike County Commissioners that he and Milford businessman Geoffrey Peckham started the group to make sure that PPL knows there are many in the county who do not want to have Route A coming through Pike County.

Route A would cross Route 6/209 and the Delaware River near
Cummins Hill Road and the Delaware River Campsites

Route A, the northernmost of three possible routes, would go through Greeley, parts of Shohola near Twin Lakes, by Cummins Hill, across the three-lane into New Jersey, then cross the Appalachian Trail in High Point State Park.

"No PP&L Route A" has also launched a blog site, at www.noroutea.com/

One entry on the blog is from Dave Jones, owner of the River Beach Campsites on Route 6/209 near the Cummins Hill Road intersection.  His campground would be affected by the line.

"Route A is certainly the worst possible alternative, but I think they're gonna' do it," an alarmed Jones said, according to the post.  Jones fears negative impacts on nesting bald eagles, and the high quality Cummins Brook.

He contends either Route B (running south through Western Pike County, crossing the Delaware south of Bushkill) or C (Schuylkill, Lehigh, Northampton counties) both with existing power lines, would clearly be better.

Cunningham said that free signs available for any person or group at Luhr’s Hardware.
