WMH welcomes new radiologist

HONESDALE - It wasn’t just the technology, but the people and the area that enticed Jeffrey Stiles, MD, to leave Pottstown Memorial Medical Center and join the staff of Wayne Memorial Hospital in Honesdale full-time. For the past three years, Dr. Stiles, a board-certified radiologist, has worked “locum tenens” (provided vacation coverage) at Wayne Memorial.
“I know the people. I like the radiology techs and I like the patient population. They’re very appreciative,” said Dr. Stiles. “I’m also originally from Washington, Pennsylvania, outside of Pittsburgh, and I wanted to get back to a small area. People are friendly here.”
Dr. Stiles obtained undergraduate degrees in Biology and English Literature, as well as a PhD in Pathology from the State University of New York at Buffalo before completing medical school at Boston University School of Medicine. He finished his residency at the University of Pittsburgh. He has experience with all current imaging modalities, including digital mammography.
“I worked with digital mammography, using the same system Wayne Memorial received this summer, for over a year before I came here, and I’m excited to be working with it again,” said Dr. Stiles.
He added that he is also pleased with the Hospital’s Picture Archiving Communications System or PACS. This digital recording system allows “real-time” access to images from X-rays, CT-scans, MRI exams, Ultrasound, DEXA (bone density) and nuclear medicine. Within minutes, a patient’s images can be called up on a computer display screen by any number of healthcare providers—a radiologist, an ER physician, a surgeon in the OR, a primary care doctor or specialist in his or her private office.
