Man drowns in the Delaware

DELAWARE WATER GAP – A New Jersey man drowned in the muddy Delaware River at Kittatinny Point Saturday afternoon.

Michael Salazar, of Hilside NJ, spent most of Saturday with his family at the access area on the New Jersey  side.  He reportedly wanted to go for one more swim before leaving.

Salazar disappeared in the muddy river, swollen by recent heavy rain, about 5 p.m.  His body was recovered shortly before sunset.

The drowning in the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area comes a week after a New York City man drowned while swimming in the upper Delaware.  National Park Service officials again are cautioning anyone against swimming without wearing personal flotation, especially when the river is running high and fast.
