PLEASANT MOUNT – An early fire gutted MJ’s Corner Café and bar, a popular spot in Western Wayne County.  The fire also damaged an upstairs apartment, but the mother and infant child living there escaped unhurt.

The fire broke out, apparently in the basement, about 1:30 a.m., quickly spreading to the restaurant and bar.  Firefighters from several area companies fought the blaze for several hours. 

The scene of the fire is across the street from the Pleasant Mount Fire Department.  Despite the proximity, the blaze spread so fast firefighters could only contain it.

The building is still standing but may be beyond repair.

Cause of the fire is under investigation.
