Commissioners seek public input Santos property

The Santos property straddles Route 209, just north of Milford

MILFORD - The Pike County Commissioners are seeking input on the development of a Master Site Plan for the recently purchased 89-acre Santos property in Milford Township. The county has  applied to the state for funds to assist with the development of a Master Site Plan for the parcel. A Master Site Plan will help to better identify the kinds of uses that might be allowed over the long-term, the types of conservation values on the parcel which need to be preserved, and a phased plan that would allow use of the parcel timed with sufficient funding to develop, operate and maintain any type of recreational or nature facilities which might be identified for the parcel.

The Commissioners are looking for two types of input.

First, they ask that any person or organization having ideas on the possible uses and/or conservation preservation values for the parcel to send their thoughts and ideas in writing to their office by December 18, 2009. Information should be addressed to Pike County Board of Commissioners, 506 Broad Street, Milford, Pa. 18337 and should clearly reference “input on Santos parcel.” This date has been set in order to insure the information will be available for the first meeting of the Master Site Plan Committee that will be scheduled for early 2010.

Second, the Commissioners are asking for names of interested residents who might be willing to serve on the Site Planning Committee. People interested in serving should send a letter of interest as soon as possible to the Commissioners at the above address. It is anticipated that the committee will meet monthly in Milford throughout 2010.

Use of Pike county Scenic Rural Character Preservation Program funds for this acquisition requires that a conservation easement be placed on the parcel. The conservation easement will be one  of the topics discussed in the Master Site Planning process. Recreation needs will also be discussed.
